Product Overview

Card Phenol Ethoxylate is a range of bio-based nonionic surfactants produced by the ethoxylation of Cardanol — a naturally occurring phenolic compound derived from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL), a renewable by-product of cashew processing. Unlike conventional nonylphenol ethoxylates synthesised from petroleum-derived feedstocks, the CP series draws on a hydrophobic backbone, making it the preferred choice for formulators operating under green chemistry frameworks, eco-label procurement policies, and voluntary restrictions on petroleum-based alkylphenol ethoxylates.

Core Applications

Our Card Phenol (Cardanol) Ethoxylate series delivers high-performance, bio-based surface activity across diverse industrial sectors. Derived from natural cardanol, these grades offer a clean-label replacement for conventional petroleum-derived alkylphenol ethoxylates without sacrificing formulation stability or performance.

1. Agrochemical Formulations (Emulsifiers & Adjuvants)

Cardanol ethoxylates provide exceptional spontaneous dispersion and foliar wetting for crop protection products, aligning with CIPAC, ISO, and EU Farm-to-Fork regulatory frameworks.

  • Emulsifiable Concentrates (EC): CP-5 (HLB 8.6) acts as a robust low-HLB emulsifier and can be blended with higher HLB grades to hit exact target windows for active ingredients and aromatic solvents.
  • Suspension Concentrates (SC) & WDGs: CP-10 (HLB 12.1) functions as an effective spreading and sticking adjuvant, reducing contact angles on waxy leaf cuticles to increase rain-fastness and uptake.
  • Recommended Grades: CP-5 (5–15% w/w in EC) | CP-10 (0.1–0.5% in spray volume).

2. Textile Wet Processing (Scouring & Dyeing Auxiliaries)

The CP series ensures rapid, uniform fibre wetting and contaminant removal across extreme pH and temperature ranges. Its bio-based origin supports compliance with ZDHC MRSL, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, and bluesign®.

  • Alkaline Scouring: Rapidly reduces interfacial tension in 60–90°C baths, removing hydrophobic waxes and sizing agents without damaging fibres.
  • Dyeing & Leveling: Retards dye strike rates to guarantee even colour distribution and eliminate shade variation.
  • Recommended Grade: CP-10 (HLB 12.1) — Dosage: 0.5–2.0 g/L (scouring); 0.2–0.5 g/L (dyeing).

3. Industrial & Institutional (I&I) Cleaning

Designed for heavy-duty degreasing and surface cleaning, these grades offer excellent rinseability and compatibility with anionic co-actives, supporting EU Ecolabel and US EPA Safer Choice formulations.

  • Neutral to Mild Alkaline Cleaners: CP-10 delivers near-cloud-point cleaning efficiency (57–60°C) for vehicle shampoos, floor degreasers, and all-purpose concentrates.
  • Heavy-Duty Alkaline Degreasers: CP-15 (HLB 13.9) remains stable in high-temperature (60–80°C) environments with high caustic loadings, ideal for ultrasonic baths, CIP systems, and metal component washing lines.
  • Recommended Grades: CP-10 (2–8% w/w) | CP-15 (3–10% w/w).

4. Metalworking Fluids & Lubricants

Delivering stable oil-in-water emulsions under sustained mechanical shear and high temperatures, the CP series is a superior alternative to standard NPEs in cutting and grinding fluids.

  • Enhanced Stability: Ensures mineral and ester base oils remain emulsified even in hard water conditions (up to 300 ppm CaCO₃).
  • Intrinsic Corrosion Inhibition: The phenolic ring structure of the cardanol backbone provides mild intrinsic rust inhibition, reducing required amine-based corrosion additives.
  • Recommended Grade: CP-5 (HLB 8.6) — Dosage: 3–8% w/w in neat oil; 2–6% in hydraulic emulsion concentrates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Card Phenol Ethoxylate (CPE) is a bio-based nonionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating cardanol from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL). It provides equivalent emulsification, wetting and detergency to NPEs while offering intrinsic mild corrosion inhibition, reactive-diluent compatibility in certain resins, and a renewable carbon origin that supports green procurement.

Rishit Polysurf produces the CP series across multiple EO grades. Nominal HLB and hydroxyl-value ranges are provided below — batch-specific CoA is supplied with every shipment.

  • CP-1 (1 EO) — HLB 2.5; Hydroxyl Value 160–165 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-2 (2 EO) — HLB 4.4; Hydroxyl Value 142–146 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-5 (5 EO) — HLB 8.4; Hydroxyl Value 105–110 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-6 (6 EO) — HLB 9.3; Hydroxyl Value 97–102 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-10 (10 EO) — HLB 11.8; Hydroxyl Value 73–78 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-12 (12 EO) — HLB 12.7; Hydroxyl Value 65–70 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-13 (13 EO) — HLB 13.1; Hydroxyl Value 62–67 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-15 (15 EO) — HLB 13.7; Hydroxyl Value 56–61 mg KOH/g.
  • CP-20 (20 EO) — HLB 14.8; Hydroxyl Value 46–51 mg KOH/g.

Typical specs: moisture ≤ 0.5%; pH (5% aq.) 5.5–7.5. For application-specific grade selection, request the batch CoA or contact our technical team.

Use CP-5 as the primary EC emulsifier (5–15% w/w in concentrate) and blend with CP-10 at 1:1 to 1:2 ratios to reach target HLB for specific actives and solvents. CP-10 is also effective as a spray adjuvant (0.1–0.5% in tank).
Yes. CP-5 is a direct technical replacement for NPE-5 in soluble cutting oils and semi-synthetic fluids, with added mild corrosion inhibition. Substitute at equivalent wt% and validate with your standard corrosion and emulsion stability tests.
Packing options: 50 Kg HDPE carboys, 200/210/220/230/235 Kg HDPE drums, 1,000 Kg IBC containers, ISO tanks and bulk tankers. MOQ for commercial pricing is 1 MT; blanket agreements available.
Hydroxyl value measures free -OH and falls with higher EO. CP-5: 100–110 mg KOH/g; CP-10: 66–76; CP-15: 33–43. Use HV for incoming QC and in reactive formulations (epoxy/PU); for typical surfactant uses it's a verification parameter.
Store at 15–40°C in sealed HDPE, IBC or stainless steel containers. Avoid strong oxidisers and reactive metals. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture in sealed containers; warm to 30–40°C and mix if viscous below 15°C.
